Hunger Awareness Day The face of hunger in the Washington and Frederick counties area will surprise you.
Hunger affects working families who are forces to make choices between food and basic necessities like heat, medicine or rent. It strikes people with sudden illness or new responsibility to care for an additional family member. It does not discriminate against age, race, gender or ethnicity. Food Resources, Inc provides emergency food assistance to 20,000 Americans in Frederick and Washington Counties each year, including children and senior citizens. America's Second Harvest is sponsoring Hunger Awareness Day on June 5th, 2007 to help raise awareness of this growing problem in our country. Food Resources will be sending out postcards to our agencies for their clients to fill out to help raise awareness of hunger in our community. These postcards will then be used to chart the growing numbers of children, senior citizens and working adults in our area. We have a lot of work to do and ask for your support on this all important day. Every dollar you donate to Food Resources- Your Food Bank Warehouse helps provide 10 pounds of food products to men, women and children facing hunger in our community. If you would like to donate time or money please give us a call at 301.733.4002. Remember, every volunteer hour and every dollar given helps to provide food to needy individuals. |
